Termessos was built by the Pisidians on the steep flank of Güllük Mountain, ancient Solymos, and its natural defences let it repel Alexander the Great's siege in 334 BC — a rarity in Anatolia. Unable to take the city, Alexander burned the surrounding land and moved on; under Rome, Termessos kept the status of an independent allied state.
The theatre at the top of the site sits on a terrace with cliffs on three sides and the mountains opening up directly behind the stage — a setting with few equals in Anatolia. Huge sarcophagi, a gymnasium and cisterns lie scattered and often toppled across the pine-covered slopes. The whole site is inside Güllük Mountain National Park, and wild goats are a common sight.

How do I get to Termessos Ancient City?
Drive about 34 km from central Antalya towards Korkuteli on the D350, then follow a narrow 9 km forest road from the national park gate up to the car park. Allow 1.5–2 hours from Side and Manavgat. There is no practical public transport, so hire a car or arrange a tour or taxi from Antalya.

Tips for visiting Termessos Ancient City
- A steep, stony 1 km path climbs from the car park to the theatre in 30–40 minutes — proper shoes with ankle support are essential.
- Nothing is sold anywhere on site; carry at least 1.5 litres of water per person.
- On the way back, add the Antalya Museum: many of the finds from Termessos are displayed there.
