Perge was the capital of ancient Pamphylia, and it is vast: a 12,000-seat stadium, a grand colonnaded avenue, Hellenistic gate towers, an agora and Roman baths survive so completely that the street plan still reads at a glance. Saint Paul is believed to have preached one of his first sermons here.
Shade is scarce, and the water channel running down the middle of the colonnaded street shows off Perge's sophisticated urban engineering. Most statues found here are displayed in the Antalya Museum — pairing the two visits completes the picture.

Perge lies 18 km from central Antalya; from the Aksu stop of the AntRay tram it is a 2 km taxi ride or walk. By car, follow the Aksu turn-off from the D400; it is about 40 minutes from Side.
